Market researchers estimate decline of PC shipments in 2013

Market Research companies IDC and Gartner have forecasted drop in shipments of PCs in year 2013. Gartner has estimated traditional PC market of notebooks and desk-based units is expected to decline 7.6 percent in 2013 , Whereas the combined global shipments of PCs, tablets and mobile phones are estimated by Gartner to reach 2.4 billion units in 2013, a 9 percent increase from 2012 and to reach more than 2.9 billion units in 2017.

Gartner estimates global tablet shipments are forecast to total 197 million units in 2013, a 69.8 percent increase from 2012 shipments of 116 million units.

In the Operating System (OS) analysis, Gartner finds Android continues to be the dominant OS in the device market, buoyed by strong growth in the smartphone market. Competition for the second spot will be between Apple's iOS/Mac OS and Microsoft Windows, as per Gartner

Another market researcher IDC has reported worldwide PC shipments totaled 76.3 million units in the first quarter of 2013 (1Q13), down -13.9% compared to the same quarter in 2012. IDC has shared regional market analysis highlights from regions including United States, EMEA, Japan, Asia/Pacific. Vendors such as HP, Lenovo, Dell, Acer, Asus, Apple and Toshiba are also analyzed by IDC.
