Linux based Freescale SoC powered SoMs for Industrial IoT Gateways

Date: 12/06/2015
When you are using IOT systems in manufacturing and such process driven industry to control and monitor various manufacturing processes, the new media Gateway computer for connecting IOT devices to Cloud and other systems is required. These Gateway computers are now available in a computer on module or system on module form factor. Freescale's processors are widely used in these types of applications. LINUX is emerging as the operating system of choice.

Industrial-rated System-on-Module need to be rugged and sturdy and feature Connectivity and security. Small form-factor SoM is used for industrial IoT/M2M gateways, and other demanding gateway/edge node equipment and aggregator applications. To give you some idea on some of the Freescale SoC based SOM products available in the market:

1. uCP1020 development kit and System-on-Module (SoM) from Arcturus Networks uses Freescale QorIQ P1020 communications processor, a dual-core, Power arch based processor running at 800MHz per core. 80x80mm measuring uCP1020 module has a 120pin board-to-board connector. The module uses . The module features NOR flash, eMMC and DDR3-SDRAM memory options including hardware RAM ECC (error correction). The system supports up to three independent 10/100/1000BaseT Ethernet Controllers and two high-speed PCIe lanes to support a mix of fixed, Wi-Fi or mobile data connectivity, along with other storage or specialized physical interfaces. Additional USB, SDHC, I2C and SPI interfaces are available for peripheral device connectivity. The P1020 processor also supports an Integrated Security Engine (ISE) capable of supporting multi-algorithmic operations in a single data pass, including all algorithms associated with IPsec, IKE and SSL/TLS. The module design accommodates passive cooling to ensure operation from -40 to +85C, without the requirement of moving parts.

2. LS1021A-IoT Gateway Reference Design from Taiwan based TechNexion featuring HDMI, SATA3 and USB3 connectors as well as a complete Linux software developers package.
Freescale LS1021A is powered by ARM Cortex-A7 Dual core with 1 Gb QSPI NOR Flash and SHDC storage is upto 32GB. I/O interface includes PCIe 2.0, 24 bit LVDS, CAN, UART, SPI, i2c GPIO, and Gigabit LAN.

3. Freescale i.MX537 based Linux Cortex-A8 System on Module from another Taiwan based Artila features Flash: 4GB, eMMC type, SDRAM: 1GB, DDR3, LCD interface: 2 x LVDS, up to 1600 x 1200 pixels VGA interface: 1 x sync. with LVDS channel 1, Multimedia: Full HD 1080p, OpenGLE and OpenVG, Ethernet interface: 1 x 10/100Mbps, USB Host interface: 1 x USB 2.0 compliant supports high speed mode (480Mbps), SD card interface: 1 x 32GB max. UART interface, I2C interface, I2S interface, SPI interface and GPIO interface.
