Compact power modules: 20A rated from Exar and a 50A rated from Intersil

XR79120 – a 20A single output, synchronous step-down power module from Exar is a compact 12mm x 14mm x 4mm footprint with >93% peak efficiency and uses Exar's patented advanced constant on-time (COT) control architecture across a 4.5V to 22V input voltage range.

Delivering 20A of current from a 12V supply, XR79120 integrates MOSFETs, inductors, and internal input and output capacitors. No thermal de-ratings are required for XR79120 at 50°C with no airflow at output voltages of 1.8V and below.

4.5V to 22V input voltage operating range, XR79120 made available in a RoHS compliant, green/halogen free, space-saving 74-pin 12mm x 14mm x 4mm QFN package. The XR79120 is priced at $13.95 in 1,000-piece quantities. More info at www.exar.com/xr79120

To share you another interesting compact power module, Intersil has also recently made available a compact DC/DC PMBus power module of size 18mm x 23mm x 7.5mm with a current rating of 50 A. The ISL8272M operates from input voltage source of 12/5 volts DC power bus/rails. These modules can be connected in parallel to achieve higher current rating up to 200 A. ISL8272M is suggested for FPGAs, ASICs, processors and memory in space-constrained and power-dense telecom and datacom applications. The device is also well suited for high-end instrumentation, industrial and medical equipment.

The 50A ISL8272M is new addition to the Intersil's already released 25A ISL8270M and 33A ISL8271M digital power modules.
Other features of ISL8272M includes:
Up to 96% conversion efficiency with 1% output voltage accuracy
Single clock cycle transient response
Independently programmable soft-start, soft-stop, sequencing and margining
Adjustable temperature, voltage and current protections
Compact, thermally-enhanced high density array (HDA) package simplifies thermal management, solution positioning and PCB routing

The ISL8272M is available in a compact 18mm x 23mm x 7.5mm HDA package, and priced at $50.75 USD in 1k quantities.
