Updated development tools from IAR for ST's 8-bit STM8

Date: 20/11/2014
Embedded software developer IAR Systems has made available a new version of its software development tool for STMicroelectronics' STM8 8-bit microcontroller family. Version 2.10 of IAR Embedded Workbench for STM8 adds improvements and new functionality for debugging, and selectable math functions, updated user documentation and new device support.

STM8 microcontrollers are used in a wide range of applications including automotive and consumer electronics, where they are used for low-power consumption as well as for low device cost. STM8 features advanced set of peripherals and is manufactured using ST-proprietary 130 nm embedded non-volatile memory technology.

The set of embedded software development tools offered by IAR includes C/C++ Compiler and the comprehensive C-SPY Debugger. Now added are new C-SPY windows that simplify the management of macros. C-SPY macros can be used to automate debugging and verification tasks, and also to perform a wide variety of other tasks such as hardware configuration, simulation of peripheral drivers and feeding of the application with simulated data during runtime. Also new in C-SPY is functionality for saving watch window content and added features for developers working with the ST-LINK or STice emulators.

These updated version of tools offer code optimisation at multiple levels resulting in compact code. The newly introduced smaller Math functions can help squeeze the code further down.
