USB 3.0 with 100 meters cable length possible with Cypress controller chip

Cypress’s EZ-USB FX3 USB 3.0 peripheral controller and EZ-USB CX3 camera controller and EverPro’s U3C A0A0-100 USB 3.0 active optical cable (AOC) have successfully tested for interoperability.

USB 3.0, which is gaining popularity in machine vision can only be used with cable length of 3 meters, however EverPro’s USB 3.0 transmission solution with active optical cable technology overcomes this limitation and extends full USB 3.0 performance up to 100 meters.

“Active optical cables are a key enabler for USB 3.0 in machine vision and industrial cameras,” said Tom Tang, Vice President of EverPro Technologies. “EverPro’s proven interoperability with Cypress’s FX3 and CX3, the industry’s most popular USB 3.0 camera controllers, makes our active optical cables an ideal solution for machine vision and industrial cameras that need to be installed over long distances.”

"We are very pleased to have validated the interoperability of EverPro’s AOC with FX3 and CX3," said Mark Fu, senior marketing director of Cypress's USB 3.0 Business Unit. "USB 3.0 cable length extension has been a common request from our machine vision customers. We can now recommend a proven solution to our FX3 and CX3 customers."

The configurable General Programmable Interface (GPIF II) allows FX3 to communicate directly with application processors, FPGAs, and image sensors and provides a data transfer rate at up to 400 Megabytes per second. The CX3 controller supports the Mobile Industry Processor Interface (MIPI) Camera Serial Interface Type 2 (CSI-2) standard with up to 4 lanes at speed up to 1 Gbps per lane. CX3 interfaces directly with any MIPI CSI-2 compliant image sensor or image processor. CX3 is capable of steaming 1080p video at 30 frames a second or 720p 60 fps without the need for compression. Both FX3 and CX3 come with an ARM9 CPU and 512KB SRAM, providing 200 MIPS of computational power for image processing and buffering.
