Belden to acquire cyber security expert Tripwire

Belden has signed definitive agreement to acquire Tripwire for US$ 710 million in cash. Belden makes range of networking and electrical hardware, cabling and connectivity hardware solutions, and also industrial connectivity and control solutions.

Tripwire's flagship product Tripwire Enterprise allows companies to control IT configurations, a common attack vector used by cyber criminals. Tripwire also has a product called Tripwire Log Centre to rapidly identify sophisticated and targeted cyber attacks. The open source Tripwire tool is also available to open source community. Some of the free tools available from Tripwire includes cloud-based Securescan for finding network weaknesses including lost are hidden devices, and Securecheq for checking critical and often dangerous Windows configuration errors in desktop and servers.

Belden targets security-sensitive Internet of things (IOT) market through this acquisition. "We look forward to incorporating Tripwire technology into selected Belden products and providing Tripwire with access to existing Belden customers that are anxious to improve the robustness and security of their networks" says John Stroup, President and CEO of Belden "This positions Belden as a leader in helping customers deploy and secure the ‘Internet of Things.'"
