Tablet computer display panel shipment exceeded 5M in April 2011

Displaybank has announced that Tablet PC panel shipments exceeded 5M units for the first time in April with the iPad2 sales began in March and with new Tablet PC product launchings from different brands. 5M Tablet PC panel shipped in April is 15.8% increased M/M.

According to Displaybank prior to iPad2 launch, Tablet PC panel shipments narrowed the gap between Mini-Note PC panel shipments until February 2011 that Tablet PC panel shipments exceeded that of Mini-Note PC panel shipments in March and widen the gap further in April. Tablet PC shipments are expected to increase steadily with increasing demand of iPad2 panel with new Android product launches including Samsung Electronics Galaxy Tab 10.1 as per Displaybank.

Ricky Park, senior analyst at Displaybank noted "looking at April Tablet PC panel shipments by inch, 9.7-inch panel shipment increased 25.6% M/M to 4.3M units, and 10.1-inch panel shipment increased 14.1% to 0.7M units. 9.7-inch took up the largest share, 84.9%, of total Tablet PC panel shipment that iPad2 launch has been leading the ascendant of Tablet PC panel shipments."Beginning in May, 10.1-inch panel shipments would see a significant increase facing Samsung Electronics Galaxy Tab 10.1 launch next month.

Park also noted, "large-area TFT LCD panel shipments in April were 58M showing 2.8% decrease M/M. However, large-area panel shipments in May to June are expected to increase as the set makers, who took out burden of inventory due to strong TV sales in Chinese Labor Day, show movements to procure inventory at lower cost in preparation for 3Q peak season."
