Freescale Semiconductor continue to focus on volume markets for its SoC chips

Freescale Semiconductor is sharply focusing on volume markets for its highly integrated SoC and other such complex processor/controller semiconductor chips. At Freescale Technology Forum (FTF) 2010 held in Bangalore, a set of tablet/smart computers were displayed. A year ago a single smart book was displayed at the same event. Though number of products displayed have gone up, but not much of the Freescale-chip based devices hitting the market in the volume range of 100s of millions, however Freescale looks determined to focus on volume markets for its chips.

Freescales's three big target markets are automotive, telecom & consumer; Industrial & Medical follows.

In India, we estimate Freescale is generating a annual sales revenue in the range of US$150- 200 million with estimated annual growth rate of 30%+. In India too, automotive tops by application segment both by revenue share and growth, as per our estimates.

Automotive companies like Tata & Bajaj are some of the lead customers in India. The 2nd key market in India for Freescale and for many similar DSP specialized semiconductor vendors such as Texas Instruments is Telecom domain, Here FPGA players also compete with ASIC Vendors due to low volume production of communication equipment in India.
