Samsung selects Broadcom's 'Combo' Chip to drive its new mobile handsets

Samsung has selected the Broadcom's InConcert BCM2075 combo chip to integrate into its new mobile handsets to provide navigation, location based services and key connectivity functionality. The BCM2075 IC comes with a pack of Bluetooth, GPS and FM Radio.

Broadcom says, the BCM2075 chip allows these three radios to operate simultaneously, with minimal interference. By offloading processing functions from the host the IC reduces the complexity of integrating and using these technologies, also reducing overall system power consumption.

The key features of the BCM2075 chip are,

It is Bluetooth 3.0 compliant and provides on-chip sub-band codec (SBC) support
The FM radio capabilities enable the live programs and integrated MP3 recording to facilitate audio time shifting similar to digital video recorder (DVR) operations
The GPS core uses a host-based integration architecture provide the low power consuming GPS available

Robert Rango, Executive Vice President & General Manager, Broadcom's Wireless Connectivity Group says, "Positioning technologies are introducing a new dimension to software applications on mobile phones, enabling them to deliver personalized content and services based on the user's location. We are pleased to have been chosen by Samsung to help enable these services in some of their most interesting new cellular phone products."
