Synopsys to gain electronic system virtualization expertise by acquiring Coware

VLSI design software leader Synopsys has signed a definitive agreement to acquire CoWare, an expert in Electronic System Virtualization software.

As semiconductor chips gear up to handle more of video/audio digital streams, the chip designers are looking at more system level approach in designing chips. CoWare addressing this issue by providing a software to architect the chip design platform, so that from that platform they can design any number of chips more easily.

Synopsys, which is already leading in enhancing semiconductor chip design software for speed and bug-free design, is getting its product portfolio richer by acquiring CoWare.

"System-level design and verification solutions have been gaining traction among developers as chips have gotten more complex and embedded software has become more pervasive," said Joachim Kunkel, senior vice president and general manager of the Solutions Group at Synopsys. "With the completion of the CoWare acquisition, Synopsys will be able to develop and bring new standards-based solutions to market so engineers can more quickly design processor and software-intensive products."
