MathWorks gets an award for its support to EcoCAR automotive design contest

The MathWorks received the 2009 Excellence in Engineering Education Collaboration Award from the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE) for its support of the EcoCAR Challenge student competition. This award, issued by the ASEE Corporate Member Council, recognizes companies that demonstrate best practices in their collaborative efforts with academic institutions to enhance engineering education and engage students in engineering.

MathWorks has sponsored EcoCAR Challenge by providing software, training to contesting student teams. EcoCAR Challenge gives engineering students the opportunity to design and build vehicles with a reduced environmental impact by using leading-edge automotive technologies. Competing teams from 17 universities across North America re-engineer a GM Saturn Vue to achieve improved fuel economy and reduced emissions, while retaining the vehicle's performance, safety, and consumer appeal.

EcoCAR Challenge has benefited students and faculty to understand the skills required to develop, and create more career-relevant curricula.

Additional information about EcoCAR is available at www.ecocarchallenge.org.
