Fairchild Semiconductor's podcast teaches PFC basics and applications

Fairchild Semiconductor has put up a podcast on Power Factor Correction (PFC) teaching the fundamentals of PFC, types of applications require it and country-specific regulations outside of the U.S. that support the technology. While PFC is not required in the U.S., ENERGY STAR and other specifications in support of consumer incentives are discussed by Dr. Van Niemela, Fairchild's worldwide technical marketing manager for Industrial Power Conversion.

In this seven minute podcast Dr. Niemela outlines the environmental goals of PFC and the role that Fairchild Semiconductor is playing in PFC applications with its full line of both standalone PFC controllers and PFC/PWM combo controllers. These controllers offer crucial cost and energy saving solutions that address the demanding requirements of a diverse range of medium and high power Switch Mode Power Supply (SMPS) designs.
