New surface mount capacitors from Vishay
features DC leakage current down to 200 nA
Vishay has released the new TM8 series of surface-mount
tantalum capacitors with DC leakage current (DCL) down to
200 nA. This device leverages Vishay's MAP assembly technology.
The TM8 capacitors go through the processing and testing
patterned after MIL-PRF-55365. The TM8 series offers capacitance?voltage
(CV) ratings from 1 µF / 40 V to 47 µF / 10
V in seven compact case sizes.
These TM8 capacitors are suitable for applications such
as implantable medical devices, medical instrumentation,
and military/aerospace systems. These devices are optimized
for filtering, coupling/decoupling, DC blocking, and energy
storage applications in medical devices such as pacemakers,
ICD, neurological stimulators, hearing aids, and cochlear
implants; medical instrumentation including patient monitoring
equipment, automated drug administration systems, and imaging
and diagnostic equipment; and military and aerospace hybrid
microcircuits/multichip modules, smart munitions, GPS systems,
sensors, and handheld portable electronic systems. Special
screening and custom application-specific options are also
available for the TM8 devices.
To ensure reliable, long-term performance in demanding
environments, reliability level screening options include
a 40-hour burn in period at + 85 °C or Weibull grading
level B, which screens for a 0.1 % failure rate. Surge current
options include option A (10 cycles at + 25 °C) and
option B (10 cycles at ? 55 °C / + 85 °C). Vishay
offers a dedicated production facility with highly skilled
staff to ensure quality in all phases of production.
The capacitors' compact L, M, N, P, R, T, and W case codes
are suggested for space-constrained portable/implantable
applications. The TM8's L-shaped terminations allow for
board mounting and visual inspection (or automated optical
inspection) of the solder fillet in the end user's production.
The capacitors are RoHS-compliant and have an operating
temperature of - 55 °C to + 85 °C, + 125 °C
with voltage derating, over a voltage range of 2 WVDC to
40 WVDC.
